What is Chiropractic Medicine?
Chiropractic Medicine is a manual medicine that focuses on the musculoskeletal system and its relationship to the nervous system. The principle behind Chiropractic Medicine is that the spine is literally the backbone of human health. Stress, poor posture, trauma, and hereditary conditions can lead to misalignment of the vertebrae. When joints become locked or fixated, undue pressure is placed on the spinal roots and the "flow" of nerve energy is compromised. Vertebral subluxation (misalignment) can lead to diminished function, pain, and illness due to the reduced flow of intelligence from the brain to the body via the spinal nerves.
A chiropractic adjustment clears the locked areas, thereby increasing nerve flow to areas supplied by the respective spinal nerves. Health problems frequently addressed include low back pain, disc herniation, headaches, premenstrual syndrome, stress, leg and arm pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and the desire for postural improvement. For those who prefer gentler techniques, we offer the activator method and Sacral Occipital Therapy (SOT).
